Joelle Cannon
Joelle Cannon wrote the book on wasteful government spending. During her 12 years on Capitol Hill, she co-authored the annual Wastebook and other revealing exposes on government failures. The CATO Institute named her “one of Capitol Hill’s top budget experts,” and her work investigating the federal budget and the tax code has been profiled by Forbes, Barron's, the New York Times, and the Washington Post, which dubbed her a “rising budget hotshot.”
Cannon spent the last six years as District Director for U.S. Senator Roy Blunt in Springfield, Missouri. Before moving home, Joelle served as Budget Director for the late Senator Tom Coburn of Oklahoma, who was known for his anti-spending crusade and enacting groundbreaking advances in government transparency. Previously, she was the Deputy Policy Director for the Senate Republican Conference with Chairman Jon Kyl, after serving as a policy advisor for the Republican Study Committee under then Congressman Mike Pence.
Joelle is in her fourth year teaching federal budget process to graduate students at Johns Hopkins University and is a local radio show guest offering the “Biden Bucks Budget Moment,” highlighting the latest in outrageous government spending. She is also a fellow in the Club for Growth Foundation Fellowship class of 2021. Joelle now lives in southwest Missouri with her daughter, and is the Director of Government Affairs for Liberty Utilities, handling legislative activity in six states. She is a health and exercise enthusiast, follower of Christ, and a lifelong fan of the Kansas City Chiefs.
