J. Baylor Myers
J. Baylor Myers is the former Deputy Chief of Staff at the US Department of the Treasury. Baylor served as a top aide to former Secretary of the Treasury Steven Mnuchin, providing him with support on all matters relating to Treasury operations. During his tenure, he was responsible for managing over 80,000 employees in the Internal Revenue Service, US Mint, Bureau of Engraving and Printing, and the Comptroller of the Currency. He also played a key role in negotiation and implementation of the CARES Act, a $2.2 trillion economic stimulus bill passed in March 2020 in response to the Covid-19 outbreak.
Internationally, Baylor was involved in several cross-border initiatives. He supported Secretary Mnuchin and Under Secretary David Malpass in the negotiation of the Phase One China Trade Deal and made numerous trips to Beijing as part of the official US delegation. In 2019, he helped assemble hundreds of global business and political leaders at the 2019 Peace to Prosperity Workshop held in Bahrain. The two-day event promoted discussions on a framework for a realistic solution for peace between the State of Palestine and Israel.
Prior to this appointment, Baylor served as White House Liaison for just over two years. In this capacity, he advised Secretary Mnuchin on all personnel decisions, and recruited, interviewed, and hired all senior Treasury leadership. He was also responsible for coordination between the Treasury and the White House, particularly on the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017. This legislation was the most significant overhaul of the US tax code in more than 30 years.
